The Gulf War was the largest troop build up in History. The Noise, Vibration and Other Physical Exposures to the troops was incalculable.
There are several job categories in many of the services in which extreme whole body vibration or localized vibration to the hands and feet can cause medical problems.
Most of the time, these medical problems are manifested as injury to the nervous system, skeletal system, and vascular systems of the Human body.
You may be eligible to file for direct service connection for this condition.
If you have other concerns regarding this topic, please contact the VA.

Title : Vibration Disease and Its Pathogenesis,
Corporate Author : FOREIGN TECHNOLOGY DIV WRIGHT-PATTERSONAFB OH
Personal Author(s) : Andreeva-Galanina, E. C. ; Karpov, N. I.
Report Date : 21 AUG 1974
Abstract : Pathogenesis of the onset and development of the vibration disease is connected with a complex interacting chain of neurohumoral and reflex-developing changes in the activity of the various regions of the nervous system (peripheral and central). In the advanced stages, vibration can lead to degenerative processes in the nervous system, vascular system, and muscles. The only favorable recommendation is early diagnosis and a rational job placement.
Vibration injuries were initially documented some 92 years ago. Yet, in the late 1970's, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) noted there had been very little remedial activity and that vibrating hand tools were still causing pain and permanent impairment to workers using them. While the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has not adopted any HAVS standard, considering HAVS an ergonomie problem (which it has tended to shy away from), it has from time to time 'issued citations for vibrationrelated hazards under its General Duty Clause. This clause requires that employers provide their employees with a safe workplace, "free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees."
Although Vibration syndrome has been characterized by vascular and peripheral nervous symptoms. Evidence of nervous disorders, indicating involvment of central nervous system, have also been reported (Klimkova, 1996) Griffin (1980) concluded that vibrations can impair CNS funtion through damage to the automomic centers of the brain. Distubances of the central nervous system includes anxiety, depression, headache, palm sweating, irritability and emotional instability (Habu, 1984)
The Seabee's are Construction Battalions!
Would not this account for the Seabees being the most symptomatic troops?
Did not the Seabees occupation alone expose, them to more dangerous vibration from equipment and tools?
Why was there no safety awareness for Vibration Syndrome when the Security Bulliten was issued in 1974, 1983 and again 1989?

"The overall test is still the conduct of the reasonable and prudent Goverment, taking positive thought for the safety of his workers in the light of what he knows or ought to know; where there is a reconized and gereral practice which has been followed for a substantial period in similar circumstances without mishap, he is entitled to follow it, unless in the light of commonsense or newer knowledge, it is clearly bad; but where there is a developing knowledge, it is clearly bad; unless in the light of commonsense or knowledge, he must keep reasonably abreast of it and not be too slow to apply it; and where he has in fact greater than average or standard precautions. He must weigh up the risks in terms of the likelihood of injury occuring and the potential consequences if it does; and he must balance this against the probable effectiveness of the precautions that can be taken to meet it and the expense and inconveniencde they involve. If he is found to have fallen below the standard to be properly expected of a reasonable and prudent Goverment in these respects, he is negligent."
"Not only in antiquity but in our own times also laws have been passed in well-ordered cities to secure good conditions for the workers; so it is only right that the art of medicine should contribute its portion for the benefit and relief of those for whom the law has shown such foresight; indeed we ought to show peculiar zeal, though so far we have neglected to do so, in taking precautions for the safety, so that as far as possible they may work at their chosen calling without loss of health. I for one have done all that lay in my power, and have not thought it beneath me to step into workshops of the meaner sort now and again and study the obscure operations of the mechanical arts.""

Health Problems Associated with Vibration Exposure
■Continuous exposure to excessive vibration may cause irreversible damage to the body.
■Regular exposure to hand-arm vibration may cause Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome – Symptoms include tingling, numbness, and pain in the fingers and hands.
■Regular exposure to whole body vibration may cause low back pain.
If you are concerned about health problems associated with vibration exposure, contact the Environmental Health Coordinator or Patient Care Advocate at your nearest VA medical center.

Critical Past!
The Life of Reason (1905-1906)
[edit]Vol. I, Reason in Common Sense
- Even the most inspired verse, which boasts not without a relative justification to be immortal, becomes in the course of ages a scarcely legible hieroglyphic; the language it was written in dies, a learned education and an imaginative effort are requisite to catch even a vestige of its original force. Nothing is so irrevocable as mind.
- Happiness is the only sanction of life; where happiness fails, existence remains a mad and lamentable experiment.
- That life is worth living is the most necessary of assumptions and, were it not assumed, the most impossible of conclusions.
- Fanaticism consists in redoubling your efforts when you have forgotten your aim.
- Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
- This famous statement has produced many paraphrases and variants:
Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who do not remember their past are condemned to repeat their mistakes.
Those who do not read history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who fail to learn from the mistakes of their predecessors are destined to repeat them.
- This famous statement has produced many paraphrases and variants:
Those who do not know history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them.
